Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow has stated that he is more than good enough to play in the Premier League and can help the club in their efforts to stay in the top tier.

The 25-year-old started only his second game of the 2015-16 campaign against Norwich on Saturday, but was unable to prevent the Tyneside outfit from losing 3-2 at Carrow Road.

Darlow has been given the nod to play by Rafa Benitez following injuries to first-choice Tim Krul and deputy Rob Elliot.

Despite not having a lot of experience in the Premier League, the Northampton-born stopper has pointed to the amount of football he has played in the lower leagues in his career.

“I’ve got the character for this. People seem to forget that I’ve played a fair amount of Championship games,” The Chronicle quoted Darlow as saying.

“Since I’ve joined the club, it’s kind of been overlooked that I’ve played over 100 games.

“It’s one of those situations where I know what to do, I just need to get into a run of games and hopefully prove myself.”

Krul’s injury has seen the Netherlands international miss the majority of the campaign and has robbed the North East outfit of one of the best goalkeepers in the division.

Darlow has the potential to be an able back-up but will be tested as Newcastle have some tricky fixtures over the next couple of weeks.
