Newcastle United’s unluckiest player?

Cheik TioteNewcastle United picked up three priceless points in the Premier League with a hard-earned one-nil win against West Brom at St James’ Park, but once again one man was counting the cost of his back luck in front of goal.

Ivorian international Cheik Tiote has scored one goal for Newcastle and it’s one that we all remember – the sensational equaliser in the 4-4 draw for Alan Pardew’s men against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, but after yesterday he should now have had three.

Back in 2014 Tiote, again at St James’ Park, scored a screamer against Manchester City, smashing this beauty into the top corner with his left foot…

However, that goal was ruled out after forward Yoan Gouffran was (wrongly) deemed to be offside and interfering with play; it was much the same story yesterday afternoon.

Cheik, who many thought had played his last game for the club after flying out to China last month to seal a transfer, returned to the starting eleven and again let fly from distance.

This time it was a curling effort that left West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster going in the wrong direction and the ball nestled into the back of the net.

However, after consultation between referee and linesman, the goal was ruled out due to Aleksandar Mitrovic retreating from and offside position, but the Serbian striker didn’t touch the ball and was not directly in the ‘keepers eye-line, which was bad news for anyone who used their Bet 365 bonus on Tiote to score any time.

Should the goal have stood? Either way, Tiote played really well and the goal would have been the icing on the cake!

Thought the goal should have stood, but there again Mitrovic was just ambling back to get onside.
Had he not been so lackadaisical and had presence of mind that there are other players on the park who are still active; and the attack hadn’t broken down just because he hasn’t got the ball he should have moved his sluggish body and got out of the way.
    Slow brain.
