According to the latest Newcastle United transfer news the Magpies have turned their attention to Anwar El Ghazi as a potential replacement for reported Arsenal target Moussa Sissoko, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 20-year old has been in stellar form for the Dutch giants this term, and has recently broken into the national side with Holland as a result. Chief Toon scout Graham Carr is said to have cast an eye over the winger, with a January swoop mooted.

The Magpies find themselves in the relegation zone after a poor start to the season, with manager Steve McClaren suggesting he could make a move in the New Year sales in order to improve the fortunes of the struggling Toon Army.

El Ghazi has scored 10 goals as a winger so far this season, and could be the ideal replacement for Sissoko should he depart. The Frenchman has made no secret of his desire to play for a Champions League side in the near future, and could seal a move should he continue to perform well for the North East giants.

Reports go on to suggest that striker Papiss Cisse could be allowed to leave the club, having lost his place to the likes of £13.5m summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez in McClaren’s new look front line.
