Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey, centre, battles with Cheick Tioté of Newcastle UnitedEarlier this week former Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan revealed that the club squandered opportunities to sign Sami Hyypia from Liverpool and prevent Luka Modric from joining Tottenham Hotspur and now it has emerged that they missed out on Arsenal’s player of the season as well.

Yesterday former Newcastle left back @robbieelliott3 Tweeted: “I remember training with Ramsey as a 15/16 year old at #nufc Could have got him for 500k.Arguably wouldn’t be the player he is today #shame”.

He continued: “He came when Roeder was manager. Trained with first team and didn’t look out of place even at that young age. Club wouldnt pay the fee #nufc”

This came just after the 23-year-old Welshman scored the winner for Arsenal in the FA Cup final against Hull City and the Gunners saw their team lift a trophy – something Newcastle fans could only dream of.

Despite breaking his leg earlier in his career Ramsey has been a revelation this year, scoring 16 goals and if he’d have stayed fit throughout the campaign he could well have fired Arsenal to the Premier League title.

I wonder how many other World Class players Newcastle have missed out on because they’ve refused to put their hand in their pocket?
