Gary NevilleThere has been plenty written about Newcastle United’s decline in the second half of the season since the January transfer window and former Manchester United star, now esteemed Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville can put it down to only one reason: the sale of Yohan Cabaye to PSG.

Yohan Cabaye was more than just the best player at the club, the player who made Newcastle tick; he was also the leader of close to half the dressing room at St James’ Park such is the influence of Frenchmen in the north-east right now.

Now, with Newcastle on a run of two straight defeats in which they haven’t found the back of the net and have conceded seven goals, they come up against the Premier League champions tomorrow and former Man United player Neville has been talking about the Magpies.

Gary said: “People are saying that Newcastle have switched off as we get to the end of the season but I think that’s because they lost real confidence when Yohan Cabaye left. He looked like he was a leader of the French players at the club. I think his move to Paris Saint-Germain has really hampered them.”

The question is, can Cabaye be replaced in the summer with someone equally influential or will Neville continue to be talking about Newcastle in a negative light next season?

Gary Neville was speaking in his fortnightly column for EA SPORTS FIFA 14 Ultimate Team. Read the full column here: http://ea.vg/1dTetIy
