Ryan ShawcrossNewcastle United are interested in signing Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross in the summer according to the Daily Mail.

Newcastle currently have four recognised centre backs at the club, each with questions over their long-term future.

Club captain Fabricio Coloccini is one of the first names on the team sheet when fit, but a move back to Argentina sooner rather than later is still a possibility.

Mike Williamson has been one of Newcastle’s top performers this season, but he is the wrong side of 30 and still can’t be considered an elite centre back.

Then there’s local lad Steven Taylor, who has put in some patchy performances over the last 18 months and is clearly not one of Pardew’s favourite players.

Finally, the man Newcastle invested a lot of money in, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who should be at the heart of Newcastle’s defence for years to come, but is he good enough?

As for Ryan Shawcross, since his move from Manchester United the commanding centre back has been a rock for Stoke and is one of their most valuable players.

This is why the 26-year-old could cost as much as £10 million, but would you like to see him in a black and white shirt?
