Newcastle benefit from United’s Chelsea Coup

yohan cabaye vs man unitedManchester United this evening completed the transfer of Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata for a fee of £37.1m, which means there is one less club that Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye is likely to join this month.

Having spoken to many Man United fans and Newcastle supporters, both have said (the latter begrudgingly) that Cabaye would have been a great signing for the Red Devils.

Man United are in desperate need of a complete midfielder, someone who can play from box-to-box, put a bit of bite into challenges and score goals, and while Juan Mata is a very good player, is he what David Moyes needs?

Now, I’m hardly one to worry about the fortunes of the Old Trafford club, but you can’t help but feel that Cabaye could have taken them on a level.

The Frenchman has been awesome for Newcastle this season, having scored seven Premier League goals (one of which came in the win against Man United) and looked a class apart in many matches.

While the 28-year-old has said he’s happy in the north-east, you do feel he’ll move on at some point and it’s a matter of when rather than if.

As Mata said “You cannot turn down the chance to join Manchester United”, and I’m just glad that’s a situation Cabaye didn’t find himself in and that us fans can carry on singing “Don’t sell Cabaye” for a little bit longer…

I don’t think Cabaye will be sold this January, but come summer there will be offers pouring in for him! Plus if Cabaye were to move to Man United this January, there would be no guarantee that he’d play every week, so I think he’s wise to stay at Newcastle this season, as he would be giving himself the best chance to be selected to go with France to the World Cup in summer. If Man U did bid for Cabaye now, it would be nothing more than a panic buy I think, so now our biggest task will be fending off PSG until the next transfer window, when I imagine that Cabaye would leap at the chance to move to Paris. I really hope he doesn’t, but I reckon if a big spending club comes a begging with an offer over £25m, Ashley will do the deal in a heartbeat!

Nufc should keep their best players and show some passion ,which is a
The sign of a club with ambition .If you want to be a top club, you must build on success and not cash in when someone comes in with an offer-unless there is a better alternative .With Joe Kinnears ineffective negotiating skills ,it’s a wonder that we get anything done
