Micah RichardsNewcastle United face competition from Arsenal in their bid to land Manchester City defender Micah Richards according to the Daily Star.

25 years of age, Micah Richards’ career has stalled somewhat as the England starlet is struggling to get on the pitch for his club, let alone his country.

Currently playing second fiddle to Pablo Zabaleta at Manchester City, Richards has been unable to make the right back slot his own.

Richards told The Metro: “I don’t ever want to leave Manchester City with the way it’s going, but it’s one of those where you have to look at your career and say: ‘Are you playing enough?’ and come the end of the season I’ll do that.”

If Richards did decide to leave the Etihad, there would be plenty of suitors, with two of those being Newcastle and Arsenal.

Newcastle currently have a more than competent right back in Mathieu Debuchy, but competition for places is needed if the Magpies are going to kick on and Richards even has all the attributes to flourish in the heart of the defence.

Alan Pardew is known to have been a long-time admirer of the bruising defender and is looking to bring some more English players into his squad.

As for Arsenal, at 30 years of age, their current right back Bacary Sagna isn’t getting any younger and Richards’ versatility is an asset that Arsene Wenger recognises.

Would Newcastle consider making a bid for the £10 million-rated defender?
