With the January transfer window not too far off, Premier League teams are lining up their bids, with Newcastle United and West Ham both set to table an offer for in-demand Frenchman Bafetimbi Gomis.
Gomis was Newcastle’s number one transfer target in the summer and while the Magpies missed out on him just over three months ago, they won’t want to suffer the same fate next month.
Still at Lyon, the France international has scored four times in Ligue 1 this season as his side languish in the bottom half of the table.
Never one short of a word Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has once again been discussing the future of his 28-year-old striker.
He told French media: “It’s not impossible that there will be several offers for Gomis. We will see”.
Two of those are expected to come from Newcastle and West Ham, with the Hammers desperately short of firepower as Andy Carroll continues to sit on the treatment table.
However, Newcastle need more bodies up top as Papiss Cisse cannot find any form for love nor money and given how well Shola Ameobi has played with Loic Remy, a link-up for the two Frenchmen leaves me salivating…
