Aaron HuntNewcastle United and Southampton are both in the transfer race for German midfielder Aaron Hunt according to the Mirror.

The Magpies and the Saints are two of the best performing teams this season and both find themselves in the top seven of the Premier League.

They have each identified Aaron Hunt as a positive addition to their squads, with the 27-year-old’s contract is running down.

Aaron, whose mother is English and previously turned down approaches to play for England, is thought to want to try his hand in the Premier League while he is at the peak of his career.

Currently at Werder Bremen, Hunt has spent his entire senior career to date with the Bundesliga club and during those ten years has played three times for the senior German national team.

An attacking midfielder, Newcastle and Southampton, along with Tottenham Hotspur, are looking to agree a deal in January that will see him move to England in the summer of 2014.
