Sammy Ameobi and Dan GoslingChampionship club Reading want Newcastle United midfielder Dan Gosling on loan according to the People.

With the loan window now open for Football League clubs, teams in the Championship, League 1 and League 2 will be looking to swoop for some unwanted players in the Premier League.

Dan Gosling is one of those, as the 24-year-old midfielder has failed to kick on at all at St James’ Park since joining from Everton in 2010.

Part of the problem is that he is often injured, which is why Newcastle have been unable to get rid of him to date as he failed a medical with Crystal Palace earlier in the summer, ending hopes of a move to South London.

This season Gosling has been involved for Newcastle in the Capital One Cup and actually put in a pretty good performance against Morecambe in Round 2.

The midfielder made two goal-line clearances from set-pieces to ensure that Rob Elliot kept a clean sheet and got forward well, even if his finishing was a little off.

Gosling could do a good job at Reading under Royals manager Nigel Adkins, but his future at Newcastle looks bleak at best.

The last thing that Reading need is another midfielder……

‘Failed to kick on at all’ is a bit harsh. He was always a squad player (when fit) and did what was expected of him when he played.

Squad players don’t just pop into the first 11 and play like heroes – that’s why they’re squad players, and to say that he never got a decent run is a bit like saying Jonas might fall over.

I appreciate he wanted first team football but we should never have let Guthrie go, same goes for Gosling

I’m afraid I haven’t seen enough from Gosling to make me think that he’s good enough to even be a squad player. At least Guthrie had some influence or impact on a game. Gosling was anonymous at Morecombe and has been most games I’ve seen him. He’d be a make weight in a deal for Tom Ince or Will Hughes for me TBH

What was Sharpy17 watching at Morecambe? Gosling was involved throughout, in defence and attack. What about the goal-line clearances? Shame about his injuries as his attitude and commitment are first class.

Kevin – the goal line clearance was about it. I don’t remember him creating a clear scoring opportunity or having a dig himself. He’s an attacking midfielder. Granted he’s had injuries but if he was such a good prospect why did Everton let him go for nowt?. I just think the gap in ability between him and say Cabaye is too great, so if he was to fill in for any great period we’d be greatly weakened. Whereas when Guthrie filled in we didn’t look too bad.
