Shola Ameobi Newcastle StrikerNewcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been linked to a move to Championship club QPR this week, but manager Alan Pardew says that he has no plans to let the Mackem Slayer leave St James’ Park this summer.

Ameobi made his first start of the 2013/14 Premier League season today at home to West Ham, playing alongside Papiss Cisse up top, who are currently Newcastle’s only two senior strikers.

The 31-year-old is now playing in his 14th season for the Magpies and has netted 51 goals in 286 league appearances, but Shola only scored once in the Premier League last season.

However, Pardew believes that the experienced forward’s future lies on Tyneside and inferred that he would encourage the club to turn down a bid from QPR should it come between now and the end of the transfer window.

Pardew said: “He’s been a good player at this football club and a great character and leader here. My position is clear on all players here. If there is a situation where it is right for the player and right for the club, we will move them on. In Shola’s case that isn’t where it’s at.”

So Shola will stay, but he doesn’t look like scoring, while Cisse looks off the pace, so the need for Bafetimbi Gomis or another established striker at SJP is huge.

Joe Kinnear, time is running out…

I can not understand some of the comments from Alan Pardue, I think I must have been at a different game. If there is offers for Shola Ameobi we should take their hand off. Also Sammy Ameobi they are not of Premiership grade. Shola may well be a great character but as a club we are hoping to move up the premiership table, this ail not be likely if we continue to play with limited ability in the forward line. I do agree though that Vurnon Anita was man of the match, Tim Krul, Mapou Yanga Mbiwa and Fabricio Coloccini save the day for us.
