Newcastle could do worse than involve Tottenham in swap deal

Jermain DefoeNo progress was made in the Yohan Cabaye transfer saga today, but reports from RMC in France say that Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation, which got me thinking that if Spurs were to make a bid, then maybe Newcastle could say they wanted Jermain Defoe to be part of a deal.

If there’s one thing that’s clear from Newcastle’s first two games of the 2013/14 Premier League season, it’s that they need a new striker.

The Magpies registered just one shot on target in 180 minutes against Manchester City and West Ham and as a result failed to find the back of net.

As for Jermain Defoe, the arrival of Roberto Soldado at White Hart Lane has seen Defoe drop down the pecking order and the England international has had to make deal with appearances off the bench.

At this stage of his career, Defoe needs to be playing regular football and while a move to QPR to link up again with Harry Redknapp has been mooted, the striker is better than the second tier of English football.

Time and time again, Defoe has shown that he knows where the back of the net is and when Newcastle were being linked with Darren Bent, many people were arguing that Defoe was a better option.

So, if Tottenham were to come calling for Cabaye, then money plus Defoe would be a decent return for Newcastle.

  • mactoon says:

    I’d rather swap for townsend

  • paul says:

he wouldn’t come this far north anyway he’s a mummies boy and won’t leave home

  • Fatkev says:

HE NEEDS 10 SHOTS PER GOAL.
he is not even good enough for 5under1and, well maybe 5under1and.
but if FATMIKE gets him cheap enough and low enough wages.

Yeah, take Ade… If Defoe won’t go to QPR why would he go to Toon? They both gonna be playin in Championship come next year… Lol…

Defoe to drop down the pecking order…Spurs only have three strikers so he will still be number 2.

Defoe will finish his career at Spurs. He’s said time and time again he’s not looking to move and the club won’t sell. He’s a top class player to bring on in games. No way can we find anyone better to sit on the bench and AVB knows that. We don’t want Cabaye anyway.

  • SP says:

No offence intended, because Cabaye is a fine player and if this had been suggested at the start of the season I would have been quite keen, but we have just signed Paulinho and Capoue and added them to Sandro and Dembélé. I suspect that Cabaye would be somewhat surplus to requirments, and we would have other priorities now.

Now, if you want to suggest Krull for Defoe…:)

    • BALESEFINDAD says:

      Krull? why?

      • patnevin says:

I’m with you on that, why Krull? I know we need a good reserve GK but Krull’s too good for that. He’d never oust Lloris as #1 and wouldn’t settle for sitting on bench.

  • BALESEFINDAD says:

we have best keeper in prem (if not europe)

  • BALESEFINDAD says:

still, please take ade though, u can have him on loan he will be good

  • KennyM says:

I think you may have got that the wrong way round….it would be Cabaye and money from Newcastle for Defoe……your living in dreamland…..lmao!

  • COYS says:

You been drinking to much brown ale mate. 0.o

  • patnevin says:

This is gonna sound big headed but I don’t mean it to be….I can’t think of a single outfield player i’d take from Newcastle. Maybe Ben Arfa, if he wasn’t so injury prone, but to put infront of one of our current players? nope, not one.

  • john snelgrove says:

WE JUST DON’T NEED HIM. Sorry, no deal. Defoe is the best striker in the EPL to have come on at 75 mins, he’ll do the same at the WC
