Newcastle could do worse than involve Tottenham in swap deal

Jermain DefoeNo progress was made in the Yohan Cabaye transfer saga today, but reports from RMC in France say that Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation, which got me thinking that if Spurs were to make a bid, then maybe Newcastle could say they wanted Jermain Defoe to be part of a deal.

If there’s one thing that’s clear from Newcastle’s first two games of the 2013/14 Premier League season, it’s that they need a new striker.

The Magpies registered just one shot on target in 180 minutes against Manchester City and West Ham and as a result failed to find the back of net.

As for Jermain Defoe, the arrival of Roberto Soldado at White Hart Lane has seen Defoe drop down the pecking order and the England international has had to make deal with appearances off the bench.

At this stage of his career, Defoe needs to be playing regular football and while a move to QPR to link up again with Harry Redknapp has been mooted, the striker is better than the second tier of English football.

Time and time again, Defoe has shown that he knows where the back of the net is and when Newcastle were being linked with Darren Bent, many people were arguing that Defoe was a better option.

So, if Tottenham were to come calling for Cabaye, then money plus Defoe would be a decent return for Newcastle.

Don’t take another cockney or another frog, lets face it my NUFC are screwed.
Get rid of all these wannabe players, and what happened to signing contracts, it’s a waste of time.

i think id rather spend that kind of money on christian eriksen, cabaye is a quality player and would imo be wrong to move away from newcastle, especially to the a##e!!!! defoe would defo improve your threat up top but cant see him leaving spurs, lol ade would be great for you for one season on loan as long as you dangle a contract at the end of it!!! but dont make the same mistake we did and actually let him sign!!!!

Am I the only one of thinking about getting demba ba back?!?!? Lets be honest, yeah we got some new faces in after ba left but really it’s gone down the pan since!! With “the special one” saying he only wants a 22 man squad and Rooney and eto heavily linked to Chelsea, ba is going down the pecking order well behind Torres and lukaku!! I say do all u can to keep cabaye, and bring back demba ba? On loan maybe?!???

If a swap deal is done with Spurs, it will involve Adebayor and not Defoe…or you are welcome to the big useless (unt on a free…

Season before last he scored 18 league gaols and got 12 assists. No Spurs striker in over 20yrs has put up such numbers. It is you that is the useless (unt!

nah toons already got loic remy, who’s unfortunately injured, once he’s back, they’ll have cisse and remy, i don’t think defoe wants a 3 way fight for one striker spot again

Being honest I’d take Sigurdsson and £10m from Spurs for Cabaye.
Then with the £10m I’d go buy Finnbogason from Heerenveen – the kids a goal machine.
Bring the Icelandic boys to the toon.

If you could make it Adebayor, instead of Defoe, then I’m sure I can speak for the majority of Spurs fans in saying: “I’m sure we can work something out.”

    Whitley Bay rocks!

    Come On You Spurs!
