michael owen predictionFormer Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has further endeared himself to the Toon Army by predicting that the Magpies will finish a lowly 16th in the 2013/14 Premier League season.

The less said about Michael Owen’s time at Newcastle the better, but the former England striker is still Newcastle’s record signing, cost a bomb in wages and made no impact in trying to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.

Now, in his role as football analyst for BT Sport, the former Newcastle number 10 has predicted that his old club will finish 16th this season, the same position as they finished last season, which was an absolute disaster.

This is what he had to say: “Heading into proceedings the Newcastle fans are perturbed about the return of Joe Kinnear. Much depends on the start Newcastle have. If a few results go against them I can envisage Kinnear and his staff taking the blame,” which could well happen.

Owen continued: “Papiss Cisse’s eight goals and Newcastle’s measly two away wins last season are worrying statistics for the Magpies,” which is fair enough, but Loic Remy has been brought in and there’s still two weeks left of the transfer window to sign another striker.

So, Owen isn’t exactly confident about Newcastle’s chances this season, but then he said that Sunderland will finish 12th, so I wouldn’t worry too much about his predictions being correct.

At least it should give Alan Pardew plenty of firepower to motivate his players ahead of the season that lies ahead – prove the experts (used in the very loosest of terms) wrong!

in the days of shepard a player wasnt always bought just to play was about the prestige and the global name ashley has ni on killed that and now we cant lure anything it seems. Owen prediction was based on what he sees now and i am with him looking at what we have bought and what the rest around us have done im really worried. get off owens back and look at the real reasons we were relagated (ashley and shearer combined was disaster that season )

Hes not Newcastle’s record signing. Owen was 17.5 million Shearer was 17.625 million as we got charge VAT on Shearers transfer.

    Exactly,

Weve sold our half decent back up players in Perch and Simpson(not world beaters i know) and Debuchy gives away a penalty or gets sent off near every game Sissoko is battling for his place with Tiote and Cabaye which is about the only place were fairly strong.

If Colo had buggered off we could be worse than 16th and i do not share your optimism regarding another striker arriving “over the line” before the window slams shut with the same lame excuses

Well he tells it as he sees it and with any luck he will probably right and Ashley (probably the only one) will be happy

Fans getting ready for an embarrassing season starting Monday

Ashley is a disgrace to all football not just Newcastle who are having to have the brunt of this awful mans mistake after mistake
