Newcastle United succumbed to yet another Premier League defeat at St James’ Park tonight after a 2-1 loss at the hands of Everton and there was only one crumb of comfort for the Magpies – the fact that Mathieu Debuchy was pictured in the stands.

It was another disappointing night for Newcastle on the pitch and there is no argument now that Alan Pardew’s men aren’t deep in the mire and facing a battle until the end of the season to avoid relegation to the Championship for the second time in recent years.

The Magpies were very poor once more, despite taking the lead very early on through a well-judged Papiss Cisse header, and exit the busy Christmas / New Year period with three straight losses and 13 goals conceded.

At the back the Magpies were cut open all too easily, with Mike Williamson caught out of position time and time again, while Davide Santon let Victor Anichebe ghost in ahead of him for the goal and Fabricio Coloccini wasn’t much better,

With Demba Ba in the stands at Stamford Bridge and off to Chelsea, at least Newcastle had an imminent arrival of their own in the stands at St James’ Park, as Mathieu Debuchy was there to watch his new team in action.

Here he is pictured alongside compatriot and former Lille teammate Yohan Cabaye…

How Newcastle desperately need Debuchy, as well as the return of Cabaye and a few more additions in the coming weeks.

The Magpies are in a dog fight, but are they up for it?
