Alan Pardew and Yohan CabayeNewcastle United may be struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table, but the Magpies are currently pipping Arsenal and Aston Villa to the top of the top flight’s injury table!

There’s no getting away from the fact that Newcastle have had a terrible season so far and while I’m not one for giving Alan Pardew any excuses, the Magpies’ list of players on the treatment table is scarily long.

Yes, many of Newcastle’s ‘star’ players haven’t played well enough this season, but there’s no doubting that injuries have played their part.

Yohan Cabaye has been a huge loss for Newcastle in this campaign, with the Frenchman having played less than a dozen times in the Premier League.

Cabaye really does make the Magpies tick in the middle of the park, linking defence and attack and providing the ammunition for the likes of Papiss Cisse.

Thankfully the 27-year-old midfielder returned from the bench against Norwich and hopefully will make the starting line-up against Reading at St James’ Park.

Elsewhere, fellow Frenchman Hatem Ben Arfa has missed a fair few games, ripping a lot of creativity out of the Newcastle XI.

Hard-working Jonas Gutierrez has been injured, Steven Taylor is out, Danny Simpson isn’t fit and Ryan Taylor doesn’t look like he’ll appear again this season.

Have I missed anyone out?

Here’s this season’s Premier League injury table so far…

Are Newcastle’s physios to blame?
