Newcastle United have been heavily linked with the signature of Marseille and France forward Loic Remy in the upcoming January transfer window, but will the Magpies stump up £15 million to buy the striker?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Marseille president Vincent Labrune has set a valuation of £15m on Loic Remy, with Newcastle only currently willing to pay £10m.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is resigned to losing Demba Ba in January, as Arsenal lead the way in the chase for the Senegalese striker, with his release clause set to be activiated.

Thus Newcastle are in desperate need of another striker and Pardew, Graham Carr and Co. seem to have made Remy their number one target.

Labrune will know this and, especially if Ba leaves early in the window, then will be in a position of power to get as much for his star forward as possible.

25-year-old Remy would have a decent sell-on value, so £15m wouldn’t be an extortionate fee, but Derek Llambias will be looking to get the Frenchman for as cheap as possible.

However, the Newcastle hierarchy will need to learn their lessons from the summer when they refused to budge on asking prices and missed out on their various targets after being held to ransom by some clubs.

If Remy is the man Newcastle want, then paying a couple of million more wouldn’t be the end of the world, especially if he scores the goals to ensure that the Magpies remain in the Premier League.
