Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are all lining up a move for Lyon and France striker Bafetimbi Gomis according to Mercato365.

January gives Premier League teams the opportunity to strengthen their squads for the second hald of the season, and the above trio could all do with firepower up front.

Liverpool only really have Luis Suarez as a recognised striker, with no replacement brought in for Andy Carroll during the summer, while Spurs don’t have any competition for Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.

As for Newcastle, if reports are to be believed then it is more than likely that the free scoring Demba Ba will be on his way out in January, with his release clause once again in danger of being activated.

In previous transfer windows it has been Marseille forward Loic Remy who has reportedly been in demand, but Gomis is now thought to be receiving admiring glances from this side of the Channel.

27-year-old Gomis has been in good form this season, netting 10 times already in Ligue 1 for Lyon, who he signed for three years ago.

At that time Newcastle were rumoured to be interested in the 6ft striker, who left Saint-Etienne for 13 million Euros, so it will be intriguing to see whether the Magpies go back in for the Frenchman who has scored three times in 10 appearances for his country.

Gomis has 18 months left on his five-year contract and if he were to leave French football, then his physical style of play should be ideally suited to the Premier League.
