Could Chelsea starlet be on his way to Newcastle?

Chelsea starlet Romelu Lukaku will be on his way out of Stamford Bridge on loan this season, and while the striker won’t be joining west London rivals Fulham, could the Belgian international be on his way to Newcastle United?

Romelu Lukaku didn’t have the impact on English football last season that many people predicted him to in his first campaign in the Premier League. One of the hottest talents in European football was bought for £13 million 12 months ago, but is yet to score for Chelsea in eight appearances for the Blues.

With Chelsea investing heavily in their squad, manager Roberto Di Matteo is looking to send the 19-year-old out on loan this season. He is quoted as saying: “At this stage of his career the most important thing is to play. It might be a bit more difficult here with us so it’s the best choice to let him go out on loan.”

Sky Sports have reported that Stoke and Sunderland are interested, but one place he won’t be going is Fulham. Lukaku’s representative Christophe Henrotay told Sport/Foot: “I can assure you that Romelu is not going to Fulham. I am currently finalising the details with another Premier League club. Romelu will go on loan. I cannot say which team he will join, or when it will happen, but things are progressing.”

So, could that other Premier League club be Newcastle? Alan Pardew is definitely still in the market for a striker and Lukaku is an exciting player with plenty of talent. While Newcastle won’t rival Chelsea for the Premier League title this season, I guess one reservation the Blues will have is the amount of playing time he’ll get in the north-east.

Chelsea are looking for Lukaku to get minutes under his belt in English football, but at Newcastle the Belgian will find himself behind Papiss Cisse, Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi in the pecking order. However, with Newcastle in Europa League action, the Magpies will be rotating their squad accordingly.
