Junior Hoilett v NewcastleNewcastle United manager Alan Pardew has given his strongest hint yet that he will make a move for Blackburn Rovers winger Junior Hoilett this summer.

Alan Pardew doesn’t usually give journalists much when he speaks at Newcastle press conferences, as like many Premier League managers he keeps his cards very close to his chest.

With many recent Newcastle transfers, there is no transfer news whatsoever in the build up to them joining, as was the case with Papiss Cisse in January.

However, Pardew has openly admitted that he likes the look of Junior Hoilett and you can expect the Magpies to rival the likes of QPR for his signature.

Pardew has said of the 22-year-old winger: “It seems like there is an imminence to him moving, wherever he ends up. We are keeping a close eye on that because he is a good player.”

From Pardew that is a pretty strong admission that he’d like to bring the Canadian to Tyneside during the summer and is as much as you’ll ever get out of the Newcastle manager.

Hoilett’s contract with Blackburn has expired, but the Championship club would be entitled to compensation due to his age, which is the same scenario Crystal Palace find themselves in with Nathaniel Clyne.

One word of warning for Newcastle fans hoping for a quick deal is that Pardew has ruled out anyone joining the club in the very near future.

When asked about a deal in the coming days Pardew stated: “No, I don’t think so, not in the immediate week or so, but certainly over the next 14 days, I would like to think a body would come in.”

That body may well still be Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett.
