Mark Davies v NewcastleNewcastle United have been long-term admirers of Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies, but it appears that Liverpool may be willing to outbid the Magpies for the English youngster.

The People are reporting that Liverpool can get their man for £6 million, a price that may just be a bit too steep for Alan Pardew and Newcastle United.

24-year-old Davies is one of Bolton’s prized possessions following their relegation from the Premier League and Owen Coyle will try his hardest to hold onto the midfielder for the Trotters’ promotion push in the Championship next season.

In terms of potential buyers, new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to put together a squad that can play his favoured style of football at Anfield.

Mark Davies is the kind of gifted midfielder who is comfortable on the ball that would have fitted in nicely at Swansea and you can see why Rodgers would want him at Liverpool.

As for Newcastle, the departure of Danny Guthrie to Premier League new boys Reading leaves the Magpies a little light in the centre of the park, but you can’t see a bid of more than £5m being sanctioned for a footballer that’s now set to ply his trade in the Championship.

While I am a little surprised Davies wasn’t included in Stuart Perace’s plans for Team GB at the Olympics, he isn’t the kind of player to garner a significant bid from English football’s bigger clubs.

How much do you think Mark Davies is worth?
