An embarrassment to Newcastle?

Geordie Shore - Chaos in CancunNewcastle is a city known for many things. One if of course the football club, Newcastle United, another is for it being a place where you can have a good time and then there’s the Geordies, but are the ‘stars’ of Geordie Shore and embarrassment to Newcastle?

On the pitch Newcastle United made great strides under Alan Pardew last season, while off it Mike Ashley has got things going in the right direction as well, with spending under control and skilful players being brought to the club.

However, the Newcastle fans continue to get a fair bit of stick and TV programmes like Geordie Shore won’t help that, as I don’t think it would be unfair to say that it doesn’t exactly paint us Geordies in the best of light.

Outside of Newcastle, many fans think of that fat guy with NUFC tattooed to his chest when they think of Newcastle supporters, or indeed just fans with their shirts off full stop, whatever the weather.

Then there’s the whole thing about us living in a dreamland. That we think we’re a bigger club than we are and that we’re deluded as when it comes to our history as we haven’t won anything for decades. But I’d just call that ambition.

But there isn’t really any defence for the behaviour of these Geordies…

The fact that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney thinks it’s the funniest show on TV says it all. Will you be watching the new series dubbed Chaos in Cancun? I certainly won’t, and I promise my next blog will be more football-oriented as well!

The whole series of shows (The only way is essex, made in chelsea, desperate scousewives) are an embarrassment to British culture and unfortunately they are becoming a driving influence behind youthful society. I will just carry on being an intelligent, respectful person in protest.

I’ve lived doonsooth for 30 years and have always been proud of my roots (walker), my team and my city. But I am afraid to say Geordie Shore is a complete embarressment I’m going to take elocution lessons to lose my accent.

The ‘Fat guy’ has N.U.F.C. tattooed on his huge belly, not his chest, and he is a mackem. He was a member of Jarrow sunderland supporters club. Until he jumped ship. He should be shunned by all real Geordies. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t change your colours.

  • Nathan says:

Why is a TV show that has nothing to do with football getting an article on a football website?
