Demba Ba vs StokeThe one negative about Newcastle United’s recent run of form is that Demba Ba cannot score for love nor money. Despite racking up 16 Premier League goals thus far, Ba has not found the back of the net for the last ten games and you can tell that he’s getting frustrated. The Senegal striker is doing all he can to score, but while his compatriot Papiss Cisse is finding the back of the net with ease, thing just aren’t running for Demba. So, against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Saturday, it is time for Demba Ba to put his goalscoring drought to bed once and for all.

You can argue that Ba has played more on the left in recent weeks and is still greatly contributing to the team, but his lack of goals is starting to get a bit worrying. You could see how desperate he was for a goal against Stoke last weekend and he was perhaps even trying too hard instead of letting goals come naturally to him as they were earlier in the season. All of 52,000 of St James’ Park was urging him to score, but it just isn’t happening for Demba Ba right now.

All of the quotes coming out of the club, from both manager Alan Pardew and the players, are positive towards Ba and everyone is backing him to score sooner rather than later. Ivorian Cheick Tiote recently told the Daily Mirror that: “It is unbelievable that Demba Ba has not scored recently. He played so well on Saturday and has been playing well. But if he keeps playing that he will score and he will score goals all the time.” However, this is what Pardew said at the start of the month and he still hasn’t managed it!

You do feel that a goal is just around the corner for Ba and Newcastle could really do with him taking some of the scoring burden off of Cisse until the end of the season. The picture above shows just how frustrated Ba is, and while it may be easier to say than do, big Demba just needs to try and relax and do what comes naturally to him. The odds are that against Wigan Ba will get a chance and hopefully he’ll take it. Otherwise we’ll be talking about the Demba Ba drought for weeks to come.
