Wigan 4-0 NewcastleNewcastle United were brought back down to earth this afternoon with a humbling 4-0 defeat against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium in the Premier League.

It is not the first time this year that the Magpies have suffered a heavy defeat on the road, as Newcastle shipped five goals against Tottenham at White Hart Lane and Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Alan Pardew will have to work his managerial magic to get his team in the right frame of mind for Wednesday’s visit to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea in what is a huge game, but all is not lost for Newcastle.

Newcastle are still fourth in the Premier League, four points behind third-placed Arsenal with a game in hand, and three ahead of fifth-placed Spurs having played an extra game.

The Magpies did show a bit of fight in the second half as well, with Hatem Ben Arfa looking dangerous on the ball and Papiss Cisse hitting both the bar and the post.

Whatever happens in the last three games of the season, it has been a brilliant campaign for Newcastle and the Toon will be in Europe.

Whether they make the Champions League or not we’ll just have to wait and see, but we should all be as happy as this young Magpie…

They beat man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal so what’s special about us.

Thought Pardew got the tactics wrong, maybe could have been a bit more defensive in the first 30 mins, however his tactics have been spot on for most of the season so he is entitled to one mistake.

I do however fancy us to get something from Chelsea!
