Last week it was Victor Moses, now Newcastle United are being linked with a move with Wigan midfielder Mohamed Diame.

According to the People, 24-year-old Diame is catching the attention of Newcastle and Everton, with the Senegalese defensive midfielder out of contract in the summer.

The positives for a Newcastle move for Diame are clear to see and if these reports are true then it seems that Alan Pardew has picked up on them as well.

Newcastle already have two Senegal internationals in their squad, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, and Diame could form a trio of Senegal stars on Tyneside.

With Diame’s contract expiring in the summer, there would be no significant outlay incurred by Newcastle either, which will please Mike Ashley.

Also, with interest being shown in Cheick Tiote, Diame could be bought as a replacement for the Ivorian if Mr T was to leave, or provide competition for places in the middle of the park.

The 6ft 1in French-born midfielder has played over 100 times for Wigan since joining the Latics in 2009 and has ten international caps under his belt as well.

From what I’ve seen of Diame over the last couple of years, he certainly gets about the pitch, likes a tackle and has even netted three times in the Premier League this season.

If Wigan were to get relegated you would think that an exit for Diame would be inevitable, and even if the Latics do stay up the Sengalese international could still be on the move.

Would you like to see Diame at Newcastle? Should Pardew make it a double Wigan swoop by purchasing Victor Moses as well? I think both would strengthen Newcastle’s squad.

They should take a look at Wilson Palacios at Stoke.

Given the RIGHT surroundings he could be world class

Don’t think he’s been the same player since his brother died, which understandably hit him hard.

I heard this about a month ago, apparently it’s as good as done he’s going to Newcastle whether we stop up or not – out of contract too do you’ll get him on a free

Yes, please! Fantastic player both technically and defensively. I hope Wigan stay up though. Martinez has put together a decent footballing side there.

we will get linked with every player again this summer just like every summer but i have faith in any of our new signings HOWAY THE TOON KEEP IT UP WELL DONE LADS

  • Magjoe says:

I have no doubt that both of these players would strengthen the TOON, and Tiote has not been playing as well since his recent injury. Its going to be a long summer of transfer dealings
