We football fans can be very protective over the team we support. We get annoyed by supporters who we don’t think have a right to support our club or those who criticise when it would be far better if they backed the team through thick and thin. Some people think that if you don’t own a season ticket then you’re not a ‘real’ supporter, but the fact is that no fan is better or worse than any other, unless of course you’re a glory hunter!

Here at NothingButNewcastle.com I’m interested to know what type of fan frequents my blog. What makes up the Newcastle United supporter-base? I think I’ve got a pretty good idea, but there’s nothing like a few statistics to back up my assumptions with cold, hard facts. So take a look at the five different types of football fan below and then vote in the poll at the bottom of the article as to which one you think you are…

The Hardcore Local Fan – You’re someone who lives in the north-east and goes to every Newcastle United home game, supporting the Magpies through pride of your home town, Newcastle.

The ‘My Dad Supported Them’ Fan – This is the oldest excuse in the book, but he does. When something’s instilled in you from an early age it’s hard to change your mind-set.

The International Fan – Don’t be too hasty to criticise them, not everyone can come from these shores. Just be glad they picked Newcastle!

The ‘Glory Hunter‘ – Not something you can really associate with Newcastle United seeing as we haven’t won anything in such a long time. They can’t really be described as fans, either.

The ‘Fair Weather’ Fan – I’m ashamed to say I know a few of these. They follow the fortunes of Newcastle but aren’t particularly interested in how the Magpies are doing.

Let me know what type of Newcastle United fan you are in the poll below…
