The busiest man in Newcastle this week?

There are just seven days left of the 2012 January Transfer Window, and so far Newcastle United have just completed one bit of business, albeit a very good one. Bringing in Papiss Cisse for less than £10 million should work out to be a good bit of business for the club, which Alan Pardew, Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias should all take credit for, as well as the scouting team led by Alan Carr. But there is one other man who Newcastle fans will be hoping has a busy week ahead of him.

Lee Charnley is not a name that comes up very often. In fact when I saw Pardew refer to him last week, stating: “Unfortunately he [Cisse] was out of reach, financially, for us in the summer, but it recently became apparent that Derek Llambias and Lee Charnley could do the deal in this window,” I said to myself ‘who?’ and then did a bit of digging.

It turns out that Lee Charnley is Newcastle United’s Club Secretary, so it’s not really a surprise that he doesn’t make the headlines. However, this week he might well have plenty of work to do as he attempts to get new players signed up and registered for the club. Signing a defender has to be a priority and there might just be a surprise up Newcastle’s sleeve.

What do you think? Will Charnley be a busy man over the next seven days getting players to sign on the dotted line, or will he be able to put his feet up and be left twiddling his thumbs as Newcastle’s transfer window activity dries up?
