It’s official; Newcastle United have a new number nine and his name is Papiss Cisse. Newcastle are thought to have shelled out £10 million for the Senegal striker and have tied the 26-year-old down to a five-and-a-half year contract.

Cisse has taken the iconic Newcastle number nine shirt that was vacated by Andy Carroll 12 months ago and hopefully he can go on to have a great career at St James’ Park. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait a little while to see him in the Premier League as he’s off to try and help Senegal win the African Cup of Nations alongside Demba Ba.

Papiss Cisse has already targeted getting his name on the scoresheet as often as possible, saying: “I am a goalscorer, and that is the thing which gives me the most pleasure. But it is also important that I help my teammates and bring something to the team. Primarily though, my major strength is my goalscoring.”

Personally I can’t wait to see Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse in action together in black and white shirts, but I’m sure like me you’ll be watching the African Cup of Nations that little bit more closely now to see what sort of a player we have got.
