Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse are to return home from the 2012 African Cup of Nations earlier than expected as Senegal were surprisingly sent crashing out of the tournament following a 2-1 defeat to hosts Equatorial Guinea. The defeat is the second of the tournament for Senegal after their opening day loss to Zambia and leaves them with zero points in Group A and no chance of progressing to the quarter finals.

When Ba and Cisse will return is yet to be decided, but Senegal still have to play their final group game against Libya on Sunday. That obviously rules the striking pair out of the FA Cup match against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, and they are also likely to miss the Premier League match versus Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Wednesday 1st February.

However, there may now be a chance that Ba and Cisse can make their home debut at St James’ park on Sunday 5th February against Aston Villa – a lunchtime game that is being shown live on Sky Sports 1. While it’s disappointing that the Dembas have failed to find the back of the net in the African Cup of Nations as yet, it’s all good if it means they’ll be in a Newcastle shirt sooner than expected.

why are they likely to miss the Blackburn match on Wednesday, playing abroad and then again 3 days later is a common occurance

Flying back from Africa slightly different and Cisse will have 1 training session max with squad after 3 games in 10 days – not doable in my opinion
