Following Alan Smith’s loan move from Newcastle United to MK Dons at the weekend, Newcastle youngster James Tavernier has followed suit. Tavernier is highly regarded at Newcastle and will get some games under his belt at the League One Club, where he’ll be until the end of the season.

The Bradford-born right back is a straight replacement for Adam Smith, who was recalled by Tottenham before joining Leeds. The 20-year-old has plenty of experience of League One through previous loan spells with Carlisle United and Sheffield Wednesday and this move to MK Dons will only further his development.

While Alan Smith is unlikely to return to Newcastle after his loan spell, James Tavernier most definitely will. It was only earlier this month that Alan Pardew was raving about Tavernier. Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: “The highest compliment I can make is that he’s looked like Danny Simpson in training. He’s been brilliant, absolutely brilliant.”

Pardew continued: “That loan period has done him the world of good. He’s come back looking really good for us.” Hopefully this new loan period will work out just as well for James and although Pards had hinted a temporary move to a Championship club was in the offing, thwe switch to promotion chasing MK Dons will do him no harm.

So, there’s an exit from Newcastle on deadline day, now here’s hoping for a new signing….
