As the dust settles on Papiss Demba Cisse’s move to Newcastle United, the news only gets better and better as far as Newcastle fans are concerned because it seems like they’ve done a fantastic bit of business.

Today the final fee has largely been reported to be £8 million, which is a bargain considering SC Freiburg apparently wanted £14m last summer when Newcastle were showing interest in the Senegalese striker.

It will be fantastic to see Papiss Cisse wear the Newcastle number nine shirt link up with Demba Ba when the pair return from the African Cup of Nations and Ba has already been Tweeting about his Newcastle United strike partner.

Ba said in regards to Cisse: “I think even when he sleeps, he thinks about the back of the net. Welcome to Papisto”. If Cisse starts to bang in the goals then Newcastle fans will be singing Papisto’s name week after week at St James’ Park.

It seems like Cisse has the stats to back up his goal scoring pedigree as well. The 26-year old scored regularly in the Bundesliga for Freiburg throughout 2010 and 2011 as the image below shows, with Papisto trailing just Mario Gomez…

Let’s hope he can continue that kind of scoring feat with Newcastle. If he does then Alan Pardew will have arguably the deadliest strikeforce in the Premier League. Bring on the rest of the season!

This is speculation but what if Cisse had a similar release clause to Demba Ba at West Ham.
Released free on relegation. This would explain why he has suddenly become available at a knock down price with Freiburg who are bottom of the bundesliga and likely to be relegated.

Thats pretty impressive that Cisse has scored 37 goals since the end of December – what a player! 🙂

he looks like a proper out-and-out goalscorer – i hope he can get off to a good start, but we have to give him time to settle in if he doesn’t.
