Newcastle have one eye on a Bolton bargain

With Mike Williamson’s continued injury problems, one area where Newcastle United are dreadfully short of players is at the heart of our defence.

There is almost zero backup for Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini, and this is one area that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is likely to look to rectify in January.

With Mike Ashley and thus Pardew keeping their eye out for a bargain, one player that may well fit the bill is Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill.

Newcastle are reportedly set to challenge the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Bolton Wanderers centre back Cahill.

According to Footy Bunker, Cahill has become a target for high-flying Newcastle but the Geordies may wait until the end of the season to secure the 25-year-old on a free transfer.

The England international has been linked to a whole host of clubs but only Arsenal made a bid during the summer.

However, interest is expected to intensify this coming January with Spurs and Chelsea likely to join the Gunners with bids.

One would assume that Newcastle United would try to bid over the January transfer window, but sources suggest that the club are willing to wait and risk losing him to another club in January.
