Newcastle’s silence speaks volumes

Image for Newcastle’s silence speaks volumes

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words; well for Newcastle that picture would be one of disappointment and a transfer deadline day where they came up dry and didn’t bring anyone in. Following the disaster that was Wednesday, neither Mike Ashley nor Derek Llambias have said anything and presumably Alan Pardew is so angry that he’s keeping his mouth shut, too. As far as I’m concerned, this silence in the last 24 hours speaks volumes.

It’s up for debate as to whether Newcastle had a satisfactory transfer window or not, but for me it ultimately comes down to the Magpies’ number nine, or more accurately, lack of. In terms of bringing players in Newcastle have done well in acquiring Yohan Cabaye, while hopefully Davide Santon will also prove to be an astute signing. However, a trio of players out in the shape of Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Joey Barton has significantly weakened Newcastle’s squad.

Those exits could have been forgiven had the Magpies been able to bring in a number nine, but as we all feared and most probably secretly expected, that just didn’t happen. Not even a last ditch attempt to bring in Bryan Ruiz, who isn’t exactly an out-and-out striker didn’t come to fruition, as the Costa Rican chose to stick with his move to Fulham and embarrass the Magpies still further.

What’s happened this week had been and gone, or rather not been, just gone and it’s time to move forward. The first step to doing this is for Ashley to come out and say what exactly went on, but I don’t hold out much hope of that happening. Instead he’ll send out his puppet Pardew like a lamb to the slaughter and quotes along the lines of ‘we tried’ and ‘we were just too late’ will come out.

I’m afraid that isn’t really acceptable, but then I suppose it’s better than not saying anything at all. Ronan Keating may have sung that ‘you say it best when you say nothing at all’, but to be honest he was talking rubbish – something we’ve been hearing a lot of at Newcastle lately. It’s certainly not easy being a Newcastle fan, but then would you have it any other way?

I sat there last night and waited like everyone else. Waited even after the 11pm deadline hoping, just hoping something would come out that we signed a striker late on. Typical newcastle again. Im glad I dont live up there anymore, because I certainly would not go and watch them while Ashley runs our club.

Ashley will go down in North East history – for all the wrong reasons.
How in Hell’s name did we ever deserve this lying, gambling, manipulative, uncaring, thoughtless, devious, cunning and obnoxious individual?

    You’ve mispelt “ruins” our club

What’s the sense of complaining about the Fat Shopkeeper, his casino waste of DNA and Pinnochio? There is only one way to fix this mess, get enough fans/businesses/honest shopkeepers and develop a Trust Fund to buy the club like what happened in Barcelona. Too opportunistic you say well 5 years ago Shamrock Rovers in Ireland got relegated from their Premier Division; the fans then bought the Club, same style as Barcelona. They got promoted back and this year are in the Group Stages of the Europa Cup along with Spurs and two others. Don’t say it cant be done, it can and has been done. It just takes leadership and that’s what NUFC Supporter’s Trust should be doing. I pledge 5,000 Euros to start the ball rolling, and I will fullfill that pledge!

So we didn’t bring in a “number 9”, so what. Look at the strikers that did move in the window, not one of them was worth bringing in. I would rather hang onto the cash, put our faith and support into who we do have and reflect on some exciting signings that we did bring in, and hope our more promising youngsters get some time on the pitch. Anyone thought that we may be playing with 1 upfront when HBA comes back, and therefore don’t need to add to the numbers we have up front. As for Barton, Jose and Nolan: Nolan couldn’t get a premier club so that speaks volumes, joey has been replaced by a better player in Cabaye, and we all new Jose was leaving in March, and has been replaced. Howay lads, let’s not kneejerk eh?

I don’t get it…. I thought we did absolutely brilliant for this transfer window!

We needed to replace Carroll. Ba has a better EPL performance record than Carroll last year despite playing in a weaker team with chances to score at a premium.

The squad needed more quality, pace and width in midfield, enter Cabeye, Marveaux, Obertan, some good young pacy players. Nolan and Barton shipped out as surplus given their age and higher quality of recruits.

Enrique wanted out. We brought in world class Santon. Faster wanted out; we brought in more experienced Elliot.

Overall squad neded one more striker. We targetted the best, Cisse. We failed. It happens. Thank God we had the discipline to keep our powder dry, and not make a panic buy of Bendtner or another overpriced striker no better than what we have.

We did amazing! MA’s team is truly wondrous. Scout Carr is special.

Not sure Santon is world class and from the looks of it Ba isn’t a spot on Carroll.

      Like your positivity, though!

Thank you Mike …. I feel better now you’ve explained it.

They should come out and explain them selfs and tell us their plan for the next twelve months, but I’ll be surprised if that happens. The squad does look a little light in some areas but I think we will be able to cope. Top half finish and a good cup run will keep me happy.
