Barton tells Newcastle Legend to ‘Sort it out Slaphead’

It was a busy day for Newcastle’s Joey Barton yesterday. Following his involvement in the sending off of Arsenal’s Gervinho and being stamped on by Alex Song, Barton went on Twitter to defend himself, but also went on the offensive. He had his say against Jack Wilshere and had a go at any football journalist that was having a pop on him. But he also had a go at one Newcastle legend and the Toon Army will never take his side over the great Alan Shearer.

It’s quite apparent that Shearer and Barton don’t see eye to eye. When Shearer was in charge at the end of the 2008/09 Premier League season, they had a dressing room spat and Alan wasn’t impressed with Joey’s behaviour. Well, it seems that Barton still holds a grudge and said on Twitter yesterday: “Bad shirt, shoes and views from shearer again. Sort it out slaphead……..” Barton obviously realised making an attack on a Newcastle legend while still playing for the club wasn’t a good idea and in turn deleted the Tweet, but he can’t hide the evidence…

As it goes I don’t think Shearer is the best pundit, I wouldn’t wear his shirts and he is thinning in the hair department, but why make this unprovoked attack? Barton clearly regretted it, but by airing his views on Twitter I can only see him getting into trouble once again. Some of his chat with the likes of Oliver Holt may be pretty entertaining, but hidden in amongst the fun stuff are some unnecessary personal attacks. Unsurprisingly Newcastle fans weren’t happy; here’s a selection of the responses…

sobbyhasselhoff: @Joey7Barton awh someone holds a grudge

reasson92: @Joey7Barton Would rather have no hair than what you’ve got on your head, look like a proper wool.

themaineman_: @Joey7Barton Better a slaphead then walking round with your haircut pal. #urchin

nataliebaird86: @Joey7Barton AND having a go at Alan Shearer, look at your own hair do knobhead

It’s fair enough to stand up for yourself, but having a go at Shearer is just a bad idea, full stop. However well he plays for Newcastle this season, he’ll never come close to the contribution that Alan Shearer made for this club. So, it’s less ‘sort it out slaphead,’ more ‘put a sock in it!’

As much as shearer did for the club, I think its fair to say he is regularly anti joey on his motd assessment. Both harbour a grudge, and to be honest, I think shearer got it wrong. But personal insults are a waste of time.

If it had been other way round, and gervinho dragged barton up and barton slapped him would there be this media storm? Simple answer, No.

Too right there would have been the same reaction “Evil Joey Barton tries to take off Gervinho’s face for helping him back to his feet” doesnt matter what Joey does he will get major stick for it, just keep cheering him on and let the Southern press print whatever crap they want.

On the motd highlights last night they only showed arsenal attacking. I did not see the game but reading the bbc live text we had good chances as well!!

Never thought id say this but Shearers changed,,Gervinho dived yet Shearer justified it by saying “there was contact” what a crock of pap, the lad dived and Shearer when he was playing would have dragged him up by his throat. The arsenal were dirty from the kick off and deserved what they got.Sadly it looks like Al is joining the ranks of the southern bigoted media and talking through his ass.As for hair, for 10 mins the topic of conversation around my seat was weather or not Barton was gay-Joey lad, that nut cut is absolutely RAVING….Motd was as bias as usual,we weren’t good but they were also poor,we looked a lot better after strola went off and Best came on,put himself around and worked hard-good lad.the highlights however did us No justice at all-well done the defence-looking good.
