Newcastle should consider snapping up City striker on the cheap

Here’s a question to Newcastle fans, if a sensible arrangement could be made in terms of wages, would you take Manchester City striker Jo? The fact is, at 24-years-old he’s still young and would likely be available on the cheap as Manchester City will be looking to get him off of their wage bill. He hasn’t really had his fair share of opportunities at Eastlands and I’d argue that he’s a better player than most fans give him credit.

Consider his first season on loan at Everton where he racked up an impressive 5 goals in 12 League appearances – including a brace in his debut against Bolton Wanderers. Although his second spell at Everton and his stay at Galatasaray weren’t quite as impressive, I still believe that if he was playing regularly in a team like Newcastle, who could offer him decent service, that he’d soon prove himself at the club.

His inability to find his place in a congested Manchester City squad has seen him lead a somewhat nomadic existence, but should he settle down in a decent squad, I’m sure he’d bring goals with him.

At the moment Newcastle are thought to be particularly keen on signing Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea. My feeling, however, is that they should sell Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands in order to finance a move for both Sturridge and Jo. Adding Charles N’Zogbia would complete an attacking trio that would offer Newcastle real flair upfront. But perhaps I’m getting carried away.

Jo is tall, quick and can score goals, not unlike a player that Newcastle sold to Liverpool for £35m last January. Whilst he’ll doubtless never quite ascend to those heights, he surely has the ability to leave his mark at Newcastle.

Whilst Pardew has already brought in Demba Ba this summer, the feeling is that there is more work to be done to Newcastle’s strike-force. Top class additions such as Sturridge and Jo could be just what the Magpies need to find themselves competing towards the top of the Premier League table once more.

Whilst many may view the move as something of a risk, if Newcastle can negotiate fair terms with City and if the player would be willing to take a step down in terms of wages, any such deal would likely prove to be an astute one for Pardew et al.

You would be welcome to take him off our hands, but unfortunately he is currently back in Brazil finalising a transfer to Internacional.

Well, unfortunately for Newcastle, not unfortunately for City!

    Massive gamble Harry,

Typical Brazilian party boy. Although he did have a decent spell at Everton, I’m pretty certain Moyes cancelled the loan because of his off-field antics. I believe something similar occured in Turkey too.

In all due respect, you already have a few “big” characters and adding another probably wouldn’t be a good idea.

On the field, I just don’t think Jo is suited to the Prem. I could be wrong, but I think he’d be better off on the continent. I definitely wouldn’t grumble if you took him off our books.

Take him quickly before you change your minds.
In fact I will get in my van and drive him up to Newcastle for nothing.
Before he came to City he played for some Russian club (watch him on Youtube) he looked brilliant.
I don’t know what happened to him when arrived here because he is a waste of space.
He never moans though but then when you are getting around £80,000 a week (not sure how much) he would be a fool too wouldn’t he.

Why should we be looking for players on the cheap? No thanks

Hi, don’t wish to spoil things for you but Jo is dreadful. He has an awful first touch, no pace what so ever, never wins a ball in the air and can’t shoot on target. Other than that he may make a fine addition to your forward line… As a city fan it has been clear that he is surplus to requirements for a very good reason!

As long as it doesn’t involve kicking, running or heading he’ll fit right in

  • Daniel says:

How much do you think we would get for Shola and Lovenkrands? Be lucky to get 2m for the pair. Best option would be Sturridge with a loan to buy, and Teteh Bangura for 1m or so

If we can get 4m for Best, and 1.5m for Ranger, do that, and go into the season with Ba, Sturridge, Bangura, Shameobi and Lovenkrands

Then next summer, replace the latter 2 as their deals will be up, with a decent striker and promote Airey

    City fan,come in peace.

I think Jo has virtually signed for another team, but I couldn’t honestly see him being the kind of player geordies could take to their hearts.

Jo is bullied off the ball all the time – you’ll never see him playing on bandaged like a Shearer. Newcastle fans appreciate a tryer, but there’s no northern grit or work ethic in this party boy.

Jo would end up getting a slap from Joey Barton for not trying, then slap in a transfer request.

Wrong call there lads. Jo just hasn’t got what it takes to play in the premier league. Probably be good in the lower reaches in La Liga.

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

just pleased you aint manager mate

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

jo pure crap, Sturridge not all that, zog a money graber who aint needed despite what the looney brigade say

    • tublu says:

can’t argue with youropinion of jo but you are completely off the mark re sturridge. he is going to be top quality.

  • lualua says:

Great to see all the comments from the City fans I agree I don’t think he would be suited to us either lads. Good luck for next season.

  • bluegilly says:

I know jo hasn’nt set the premier on fire, but i still think he could be a great buy for a mid table team. I know in rusia his goal per game ratio was excellent.I think if he was given a decent run in a team could turn out to be a bargain.I think with some confidence and the right manager things could work well for all parties involved. And another pluss you never see him moaninig like certain players i could mention. i wish the lad all the best for the futureas i think the main thing that went against him was the price tag he came with.

  • city says:

jo is already sold to a brazilian club,, but you can have roque santa cruz for 4M gbp

  • markaccus says:

Re roque santa claus. No thanks. Too many mince pies

  • Alex Glasgow says:

If you can find one City fan that thinks that either he hasn’t been given more than his fair set of chances and would want him to be retained by City you would be very lucky indeed. In fact I think most City fans would drive him to Newcastle or for that matter Brazil.

How about Adebayor? Comes complete with two chips on his shoulders. Or Bellamy? I believe he knows the area well.

  • the mystery illness says:

if you think you need jo then you’ve not watched him ! not the man for you , i wish him well but he was a terrible buy for us , good luck this season geordie boys , hope mike ashley manages to get his short arms in his deep pockets for you !

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

while you blues fans are here we would swap xisco for adebayor if yous want lmao

  • Paul@Manc says:

Think of your worst ever player x 100 and you are not even close. You should get out best player back from 2009/10 Bellamy and ask for Guidetti on loan as he’s class!
