Juan Manuel Martinez is set to be the talk of the Tyne as Newcastle United will look to fend off competition from Italy and Spain to bring the Argentine wide man to the Premiership.

According to the Daily Mail the likes of Wigan and Blackburn were keeping tabs on the 25 year old, but as the summer has progressed interest from the North West has died down.

The pacey playmaker plays just off the striker or out on the flank, and this versatility would come in handy for the Toon as they are certainly lacking options up top.

He has spent his whole career at his current club Velez Sarsfield after he emerged through their ranks at youth level.

After adding Argentina Footballer of the Year 2010 to his CV he has attracted attention from various clubs around Europe and it looks promising he will be offered a new challenge away from his native country.

As Alan Pardew rides into battle to convince Martinez, otherwise known as “the little donkey” that St James’ is the right destination for him to ply his trade, it will prove a tough task as he will have to see off the likes of Napoli and Sevilla, whom can both offer European football next season.
