Are Newcastle’s departing duo right to stick the boot in?

It seems that Newcastle pair Jose Enrique and Wayne Routledge will be departing the St James’ Park club sooner rather than later. Both have been linked with exits for a long period of time and now both have used Twitter to hit out against the club. Enrique’s tweets have been more high profile, and have even resulted in him deleting his account, but Routledge has been at it, too. So are Newcastle’s duo right to stick the boot in, or should they keep their opinions to themselves while they’re still wearing the black and white stripes?

You’ve probably read about Jose’s tweets by now, but here they are in full just in case you’ve missed them or only caught bits and pieces. The Spaniard said “In columbus now. I agree with the statements that echo today from Joey Barton. The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players? Andy [Carroll], Nobby [Kevin Nolan]? This club will never again fight to be among the top 6 again with this policy.”

Pretty damning from Enrique, but he did try and separate the actions of the club from the Newcastle fans. He further added: “I believe that you, the fans are the best and you deserve the best for what you are doing with the club. Thank you all for supporting me.” However, are we all still supporting him after his recent actions and refusal to sign a new deal? The Bull wasn’t done there either and finally stated: “They have given me the money I have already. They lie all the time. But is not for money is because they don’t want to spend money in the club.”

So, Enrique is really sticking the boot in, I guess in an attempt to try and appease us, the fans, and lay all of the blame with the club. In any situation, there’s never just one person to blame, though, and both sides have to take responsibility for the current predicament, even if the club are far from helping matters. Given that Enrique is still contracted to Newcastle, for the time being at least, his behaviour isn’t exactly that professional and could be seen to be trying to engineer an exit from the club that hasn’t been forthcoming this summer as of yet.

Then there’s Routledge, what has Wayne been saying I hear you ask? Well, not much if truth be told, but the Newcastle winger did write: “Has just read @Joseenriqe3 tweets… #nailonhead comes to mind?” While obviously not going into as much detail as Enrique, he clearly agrees with his sentiments and is thus criticising the actions of the club, most likely in regards to the loyalty payment that, in my eyes, the club are right not to be giving him.

Irrespective of what’s going on behind the scenes, here we have two Newcastle players under contract who are clearly speaking out against the club. While that does give Newcastle fans a bit of an insight into the current situation, I don’t agree with what they’ve done. I want Newcastle’s players to give 100% for the club and keep any grievances they have to themselves. That goes for Joey Barton, too – by all means tweet but don’t tarnish the club who are still paying you a fortune.

Reading this article I would say that Tom Jones is Ashleys mate as well.

  • Yes, they are paid a fortune and I think that is part of the problem. They have, and earn, so much they don’t have to worry. Kevin Keegan was right when he said of his Manchester City players, ‘How do you motivate a team of millionaires.’
I agree that Jose should have kept his mouth shut, or more accurately, his typing finger still, but fans will be in agreement with much of what he says. And Alan ‘Partridge’ keeps bleating on about being on track for the right signings, but the last I heard he was still chasing a striker who doesn’t want to come to the club. One gets the feeling that there is discontentment in the ranks of the millionaires club.

In any other industry in the world you would loose your job for making such comments on a social networking site for all of the world to see.

Get Jose out now before he de-motivates the other players any more than he already has! The players need to pull together and get behind the people who run the club, and if they don’t like the way it is being run, get their agent to find them another club.

I am sure that if we were not due such a huge windfall from his imminent sale, he could have been sacked for such remarks!

I think Jose is perfectly entitled to say what he is saying and get his point of view across to the fans. Tom he doesn’t have to respect the owner in order to respect what Newcastle United should really be about the “fans”.

Enrique’s comments about “The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go.” how will Jonas, HBA, STaylor, Colo etc etc feel when Jose is claiming that the MAJOR PLAYERS are going – and then only names 2, Judas money grabber who went in Jan, and old man pocketsnatcher who tried to hold us to ransom and pay him upto retirement age

Sorry Jose, great player but you’ve either had your head turned or you’re trying to get the clubto flog you and then you can get your pay off bonus as you leave

Why can’t they sepeak out? if the club is maligning them then they have tthe right of reply.

to my mind he is telling the truth, pure and simple.he is just confirming what all unblinkered supporters know, that fatash and lambsarse tell lies whenever they open their mouths.

You lot are obviously either on the dole or working dead end jobs as you’s have no idea how to behave towards and support a growing business. You just cant speak out against a club/business and expect to keep your job. Simple!
