The Premier League fixtures were announced today and, for a change, Newcastle are not facing Manchester United. Instead, we see a repeat of arguably last season’s greatest occasion for Newcastle, as Arsenal travel to St James’ Park. And as if that wasn’t enough, the following weekend sees the first Tyne-Wear derby of the season, as Newcastle make the short trip to the Stadium of Light to face fierce rivals Sunderland.
It’s hard to forget Newcastle v Arsenal last season, and the match on the weekend of the 13th of August will have to go some way to live up to it. Alan Pardew’s men would do well to not go 4-0 down within the first half hour, but then I suppose they wouldn’t have the chance to mount a memorable comeback! Two Joey Barton penalties, a Leon Best strike and a Cheik Tiote screamer earned Newcastle a draw; a result Newcastle would take at St James’ Park in two months’ time.
Home to Arsenal and away to Sunderland represents a cracking start to the season, and also a great excuse to watch this video again. Bring on next season!
You would also have to prey to get the same dodgy officiating as last year.
1 goal disallowed v 1 dodgy pen – seems fair to me
Just watched that video again. Just an amazing 2nd penalty decision – truly ridiculous. But take nothing away from the 4th goal.
Last seasons game was amazing. Tiote!!!!!
