Vocal as ever on Twitter, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has taken a swipe at Newcastle United’s fanbase on social media.

With so much talk surrounding the long-term future of Rafa Benitez, Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder wrote of the Spaniard’s huge support at St. James’ Park against Derby County yesterday, with the Toon Army making it perfectly clear to top brass just who they want in charge.

Still, Jordan doesn’t see it that way.

He took to Twitter to suggest those very fans would move to turn on Rafa should Newcastle win promotion and the Spaniard start life back in the top tier badly. There’s little doubt the squad at his disposal would need big investment to compete with the elite, though Jordan’s comments are pretty harsh, considering the immense popularity Benitez has on Tyneside.

Perhaps it’s indicative of the fickle nature of being a football manager, though the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach is the most popular figure at Newcastle United in many years.
