According to the Daily Mirror, top brass at Newcastle United are unhappy about the fact Rafa Benitez chose to go somewhat public in his transfer frustration.

Having not been able to land anyone over the course of the January transfer market, the Spaniard was visibly annoyed following the 2-2 draw with QPR in midweek, though was able to spend in the summer to rebuild a squad. The report does suggest Mike Ashley is willing to loosen the purse strings, though only if the Magpies are in the Premier League.

Still, there is thought to be a slight disappointment behind the scenes at St. James’ Park at his public handling of the situation, though the 56-year-old did vow not to quit the Toon Army during the pre-match buildup for the win over Derby County.

The Mirror further go on to claim that Benitez was reportedly aware of their reluctance to partake in the New Year sales, though there have been problems with this regime for previous managers.
