Though Newcastle United came through a tricky tie at home to Aston Villa, with whom they have a largely awful record against, with three points, their victory really did come at a cost. The Toon Army saw top scorer Dwight Gayle leave the field of play after just 32 minutes, ruling himself out of crunch games over the next month or so.

From next week onwards, the Magpies will travel to the likes Brighton and Hove Albion, Reading and Huddersfield Town in what could be a defining period in their attempts to return to the Premier League under Rafa Benitez. Before the aforementioned run of games, of course, the Toon welcome Bristol City to St. James’ Park on Saturday.

With Isaac Hayden and Dwight Gayle already ruled out, the Spaniard simply cannot afford another big injury blow against the Robins. Lee Johnson’s side look relatively out of sorts right now, so it could represent a natural chance to rest a few key individuals this weekend.

Considering this, here are TWO players he should rest.
