Newcastle United’s January transfer window continues to take all sorts of twists and turns, with the Magpies today linked with a surprising move for Swansea midfielder Modou Barrow.
The links to the 24-year-old Gambian speedster have come slightly out of left-field, with much of the attention focusing on a potential return to Tyneside for Andros Townsend. While he’s proved impressive at times in the Premier League, it’s fair to say the Swans man is far from a big name.
Aston Villa have also been mooted as a potential destination for the midfielder who, to be fair, does have Championship experience through his loan stints with the likes of Blackburn and Nottingham Forest.
So, you can imagine the debate such a story has sparked on Twitter. With so much attention on Townsend, it’s fair to say this story has come as a relative disappointment.
So, here’s a look at how Newcastle fans reacted.
I mean you rather play Sammy regularly than sign Mo Barrow. #NUFC

Barrow might be decent at this level. Right footed? We're leaning heavily towards left footed wingers currently #NUFC

No idea about this Barrow lad, but loads weren't overly keen on a couple Rafa's brought in and he's been proven right. #NUFC

Barrow > Townsend for me #NUFC
Just because I don't want Andros

Barrow from Swansea is a player that #NUFC are after!? No better than Obertan… Lightning quick but not a clue what to do with a football!
