It was little over a year ago now that Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez was linked with moves away from St. James’ Park, to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
In fact, the Spaniard was even touted as a bizzare target for La Liga juggernauts Barcelona over the course of the summer.
Clearly a hugely talented player, there was a real feeling amongst the Toon Army the 22-year-old could be tempted with moves away, partiuclarly when the club meekly surrended their Premier League status.
Still, the former Tenerife youngster has been on an alarming downward spiral, pretty much ever since he was handed a big money new long-term deal back in February.
Such are the nature of his ineffective performances, other than one decent game against Brighton at St. James’ Park, there’s now almost a collective groan when he’s brought on as the Magpies search for a Plan B.
His nose diving form has been sad to watch, particularly from a player who promised so much, though it does raise an interesting question.
Would you keep Ayoze Perez should Rafa Benitez take Newcaslte United back to the Premier League?
Perhaps he’d fare better in the top tier, where he’s previously flourished, though does he really deserve another crack at it?
