With so much talk surrounding the notion of seeing Andros Townsend return to Newcastle recently, the Daily Telegraph have provided an interesting update on the 25-year-old’s situation.

After seeing his career stall since leaving the Magpies upon their relegation from the Premier League last summer, the England international has failed to wholly convince at Crystal Palace and was part of the side who failed to keep Alan Pardew in a job at Selhurst Park.

Having been linked with a return to St. James’ Park, where he proved to be a hugely popular player during the relegation scrap, the former Tottenham man is claimed within the report to have admitted he made a mistake in leaving Tyneside so soon.

Rafa Benitez is believed to have considered loan moves this January as he attempts to apply the finishing touches to his promotion charge and the North East giants are thought to have offered to take him on loan, before potentially making the deal permanent should they make a return to the Premier League.

Newcastle are understood to have been lead to believe a move would be welcome on his part, though it remains to be seen what power brokers at Selhurst Park want to do with him exactly.
