While the major themes coming out of Newcastle United’s win over Birmingham City in the FA Cup last night centre around the returning Jonjo Shelvey, as well as the Toon finally getting past the third round, it was a big night for another Magpie.
It seems Cheick Tiote will soon leave the club he joined seven years ago after Rafa Benitez reportedly blocked his exit prior to their 3-1 last night as he searched for cover, though it seems like the 30-year-old will finally leave St. James’ Park this month.
Though the powerful Ivorian, like many of his teammates, saw his form dip over the past couple of years, there’s little doubt he’s been a decent enough servant to the black and white cause and provided us all with some wonderful performances.
Memorably, he scored THAT screamer against Arsenal in the famous 4-4 draw on Tyneside, though many of his outings between 2010 and 2012 were that of a midfield destroyer on a rampage.
So, here’s how Twitter bid the former FC Twente ace farewell.
If it is goodbye to Tiote, it's been a long 7 years… Worth it for this tho. #nufc https://t.co/qwZrFTg8wj
