With the Chinese Super League now proving to be such a threat to English based sides due to the lucrative wages on offer in the Far East, rumours and reports surrounding top talents are always likely in the January transfer window.

While they are no longer a Premier League side, Newcastle United have not been exempt from that at all. Magpies midfielder Cheick Tiote has been touted as a potential target for those in Asia as his time at St. James’ Park winds down.

Clearly, the CSL is a relative unknown and the riches they can offer do represent a danger, Toon legend Alan Shearer has delivered an emphatic answer when asked whether or not he would have considered a move of this ilk.

Having snubbed big offers from Manchester United and Barcelona to join his boyhood charges way back in 1996, the former England skipper laughed off suggestions he would have moved to China for the money.
