It seems Blackburn Rovers have derailed Newcastle United over the last few months. 

Their win at St. James’ Park at the end of November preceded both a loss in the EFL Cup to Hull City before another one on a bizarre night away at Nottingham Forest.

Though there’s been table topping form since, Rovers once again caused an upset over the Toon at Ewood Park yesterday as they ran out 1-0 winners once more.

Ever since, there’s been an element of fear amongst the Geordie faithful on Twitter and the like as Brighton took top spot by two points, who also boast a game in hand over Rafa Benitez’s men.

However, is there really a reason to worry?

History tells us not.

As you’ll see in the image below, the Magpies always tend to struggle over the winter months when playing in the second tier, including a run of winning just 3 games out 10 the last time they won promotion.

In fact, back in the 1992-93 season, the club went SIX games without a win in January and February before Kevin Keegan brought them up.

Both times, Newcastle ultimately won the league…
