The January transfer window is always likely to throw up rumours and reports all around the globe concerning a myriad of players, with Newcastle United’s month so far dominated by various different links.
Most recently, Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has recently been mooted as a target for the Magpies only six months after he left Tyneside following the Magpies’ relegation from the Premier League in May.
While it remains to be seen just what will happen on that front, the England international isn’t the only former Toon player currently plying his trade in south London to be linked with a move away. According to reports emanating out of France (in particular, France Football) Yohan Cabaye has been linked with a move to Marseille to link up with former boss Rudi Garcia.
Such is the Frenchman’s standing at St. James’ Park, where he enjoyed a number of productive seasons before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain, such stories were always likely to provoke a reaction amongst the Toon Army on social media.
With that in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted to Cabaye’s rumours.
I know the history and reasons why it won't happen, but Cabaye and Shelvey would tear this division a new arsehole together at #NUFC

@NUFC360 I would have Townsend back in a heartbeat but let's not forget that Cabaye refused to play for us! No way #NUFC

@NUFC360 No thanks. Give me 11 Joey Barton’s or 11 Kevin Nolan’s and we are laughing. The next few months are gonna be one hell of a scrap
