Though Rafa Benitez’s first-team do not play until their FA Cup clash with Oxford United on Saturday, Newcastle United have been in action tonight against bitter rivals Sunderland.

Contesting the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, the Toon were drawn against the Black Cats in the only Tyne-Wear derby the 2016/17 campaign will see and what a game it was. Having gone 2-0 up, the Toon Army were constantly pegged back by their North East neighbours, who ultimately levelled the scores at 3-3 in a thrilling affair at Hetton’s Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.

However, the Magpies saved the best until last as they grabbed a wonderfully dramatic late winner in the 88th minute, to seal a 4-3 win for those in black and white. Newcastle haven’t won this trophy since 1985, when their burgeoning ranks boasted a certain Paul Gascoigne.

With no other derby to shout about this season, here’s how Twitter reacted to Newcastle’s stunning win over Sunderland.

Do we ever get bored of saying that?
